Synopsis Guide

    Any synopsis failing to adhere to these guidelines would be disqualified. 

    Do’s 

    I. The jury will select synopses that score high on these Evaluation criteria:

        • Push the envelope for the Insights Industry 
        • Demonstrate originality and freshness of the thinking by the authors 
        • Show innovativeness of the method/solution 
        • Quality of thought leadership and academic rigour
        • Robustness of design/evidence of data/scientific thinking
        • Usefulness of research to participants, Research & Insights industry & Marketing in the Indian context
        • The clarity and conciseness of submission

    II. The synopsis document must be structured as follows:            

         1. Title    
        2. Elevator pitch (why should your synopsis be selected among others)    
        3. Background (including the reason it is being submitted for the particular topic) 
        4. Research Objective OR Hypothesis OR Problem definition
        5. Brief description of methodology/experiment design OR approach
        6. Pilot plan and/or Results
        7. Conclusions (vis-a-vis the objectives/hypothesis/problem definition)
        8. Implications for research practitioners - researchers and research buyers
        9. Limitations of the approach/method/technique    
        10. References/bibliography 

    III. The synopsis document must be formatted as follows:

        •    The synopsis document should not exceed 1500 words.
        •    Font used should be “Calibri" size 12 and the line spacing should be 1.5.
        •    The entire document should be in upper lower case and the title should also be in upper lower case. 
        •    The document should be in PDF format. The PDF file should be named as the full title of the paper.

    IV. Other points on the synopsis:

        •    To be eligible, the synopsis must showcase work implemented within one year (June 2022 to date).
        •    To be eligible, the synopsis must showcase work not presented previously at an event such as a conference or seminar OR published elsewhere.
        •    All work will considered whether paid or unpaid, concept or completed research. 
        •    We welcome compelling ideas too at the synopsis stage. Even failures are great learnings. However please note if an idea is shortlisted, you will need to work on at least a limited experiment or pilot for presentation. 
        •    Both MRSI members and non-members may submit synopsis.
        •    Synopses that involve global or local organization tools or models or programmes must clearly demonstrate that the authors have done more than implement an organizational initiative.
        •    We welcome submissions from research professionals as well as research enthusiasts who may not be working directly with MR or Insights, as long as insight or market research plays a key role in submission.

    V. Instructions for synopsis submission: 

        •    The synopsis submission is to be done online on the MRSI website which will go live on 4th July 2023. 
        •    Please ensure you have the completed synopsis document ready in advance, formatted as per instructions above, in PDF format to upload. 
        •    An acknowledgement of your submission will be generated, along with the submission ID. You will receive this by email and need to please keep this ID number for reference for all further communication regarding the synopsis. You can print it or take a screenshot for your records, as well.


    Don’ts 

    At synopsis stage:

        • Document should not carry the name of the authors. 
        • Document should not carry the name of the authors’ organisation(s). 
        • Document should not have any reference to branded tools/methods/programmes which can reveal the identity of the author or the organisation.
        • Document should not have any mention of brand names of products or services which can reveal the identity of the author or the organisation.

    NOTE: 

    The jury will be presented fully blinded synopses only. After shortlisting by the jury, the papers presented will mention authors and can share names of organisation, brands, etc.  An NOC will need to be signed by the sponsor if the paper presents data or insights from paid work.


    Terms and Conditions

    - Decision of the selection committee would be final and the MRSI will not be liable for any inconvenience/disputes resulting from the selection committee's decision.

    - MRSI reserves the rights to delete or merge topics outlined in this document in the event of not enough quality submissions for any session.

    - The authors of selected synopses will be requested to submit a detailed research paper as well as MS PowerPoint slides to the judging panel. The presentation would be screened once more to confirm it is in line with the synopsis, to then make the final selection. 

    An NOC will need to be signed by the sponsor if the paper presents data or insights from paid work.

    The authors must confirm in the synopsis the work was done in the last 1 year (June 2022 to date). 

    The authors must confirm in the synopsis, that the work not presented previously at an event such as a conference or seminar or published elsewhere


    All submitted synopsis and presentations become the property of the MRSI and may be used for promotional purposes.
